Bee Syrup
B-Liquid Performante
B-LIQUID Performante is a bee syrup specifically designed for spring stimulation, summer emergency situations and stock building. The syrup is composed of a liquid sugar blend with 46% fructose. The product is ready to use.
Period of use
– early spring (spring stimulation)
– late summer (winter stock building)
– summer emergency situations
Composition
Fructose (% on dry matter): 46%
Glucose (% on dry matter): 28%
Sucrose (% on dry matter): 26%
Dry matter (% on total): 76%
Features
The high fructose content gives the syrup a high palatability, useful for quick and immediate consumption (thus preventing robbing situations).
Thanks to its particular viscosity (76% dry matter), it is also available in a 2 kg B-nest tray that works as a vacuum feeder, always new, clean and easy to transport. Simply make a few holes in the film (the number varies depending on requirements) and, with slight pressure, release the air inside, then turn it over to create the vacuum and place it directly over the feeding hole.
Thanks to the vacuum effect, the product does not drip inside the hive, making feeding more natural. The small droplets that form on the holes simulate nectar in nature and remain constantly available for the bee’s proboscis. The high fructose content as the predominant sugar further encourages consumption by following the bee’s habits and instincts.
Why making syrup at home may not be the right solution?
Many will have searched online for solutions on how to prepare bee syrup at home, or how to invert sugars. Those who have carried out this research have often come across the classic recipe involving the creation of a sucrose, water and lemon juice solution, taking care to maintain an optimal mixing temperature.
Making DIY syrup to feed bees may not be the right solution. There are many potential mistakes.
Syrup too thin or too thick
A bee syrup that is too thin could cause mould inside the hive, or bring excessive moisture during cold periods with the risk of colony collapse. Bees will in fact need to move more to compensate for the heat lost due to too much water inside. This leads to a shorter winter lifespan with the risk of losing the entire colony in January/February. A bee syrup that is too thick, in turn, may not be optimal for feeding efficiency, making digestion difficult and causing bees to seek water outside the hive.
Uncontrolled HMF formation
If the acidity levels of the mixture are incorrect, there is also the problem of HMF caused by the degradation of fructose within the bee syrup, or the resulting chemical imbalance in the hive.
Incomplete inversion
Home inversion allows a sucrose inversion level of between 40% and 50% to be achieved. Even reaching 50% inversion levels, we are offering bees 50% sucrose, 25% fructose and 25% dextrose. Note that sucrose is a disaccharide sugar that still needs to be processed by the bees, making it a factor in premature ageing, a concerning effect during the winter period.
Why use B-liquid Performante syrup?
B-LIQUID Performante is a blend of individually pure sugars. The sugars in our bee syrup are therefore not subject to inversion and the quality standard is always maintained. The water content is always the same and is measured at the end of the process. We do not have 50% sucrose, but 46% fructose. The high concentration of monosaccharides promotes total digestibility of the product by the bees without tiring them.
